We left our hotel in San Antonio Bay and made our way to the renowned Ibiza Rocks hotel to enjoy Merky festival. We arrived to colours everywhere. People were dressed in all types of swim and beachwear as the weather was 29 degrees at 1pm in the afternoon. The energy at Ibiza Rocks was buzzing from the forefront.
We collected our press passes, then met Lisa (Ibiza Rocks) who escorted us round to the press area. Ibiza Rocks has two tiers, upstairs for VIPs, Performers and Press and downstairs for general admission. We were situated on the balcony which overlooked the stage. Ibiza Rocks has a stage in the middle, surrounded by pools and hotel rooms overlooking the pool area. The atmosphere is difficult to describe, however it is such a great feeling, maybe a little electrifying.
The hospitality was second to none as Lisa from Ibiza rocks provided us with ample amount of drinks and a table area. The place was rammed and everyone inside was on extremely good vibes from the off-set.
Day 1 and we’re ready to enjoy
We see a small ray of light hit centre stage and in a lovely orange outfit, its Very Vee Brown the hostess with the mostest. She starts the festival off with jokes and banter. Interacting with the crowd and getting everyone hyped up and excited for the performances. First act on was Mabel who performed amazing and my lover which featured notes. I would describe her performance as short but sweet as is she.
These performances were followed by extremely talented artists such as Fredo, Jaykae and Ramz. The crowd enjoyed singing along to Ramz very well-known hit Barking, this was a memorable moment for day one. Upstairs in the VIP, artists and VIPS are coming in thick and fast and creating an amazing atmosphere. We spotted Posty GRM Daily, Aaron Roach Bridgeman, Chipmunk, Krept & Konan, 187 Ladies and many many more. It created an unexplainable energy.
Day two was intoxicating from start to end
The performances start and I tell you we were fully entertained. So much so that we left VIP and went downstairs to general admission to enjoy the vibe which had taken over. Everyone was extremely friendly and bubbly as we fought our way to the front to get pictures. As well as Very Vee doing the most in a lovely Karl Kani number, she was followed on stage by the beautiful Ms Banks. Ms Banks performed and interacted with the crowd, calling supporters on stage to dance alongside her. Those girls could really move and Ms Banks was in her element.
Krept & Konan hit the stage next with an absolutely epic performance where they brought out other artists such as Michael Dapaah, who performed his hit single “Man’s not hot”. The crowd ignited into a whirlwind of cheers. Krept and Konan went on to bring out Chipmunk and the Legendary Lethal Bizzle. This was the icing on their performance as they were not announced on the line up.
Energy levels that would raise a roof
As the day went on and the hours got later we had another absolutely astounding performance from Mo Stack. He performed “what I wanna” this is when the energy at Ibiza Rocks really hit the roof. Mo stack had me jumping and shouting because he is an incredible performer. He interacted with the crowd on a high level making them do all sorts of dances. It was like a Mosh Pit and no one cared about their drinks as we all jumped together. We also had Haile from Wstrn and AJ who performed a couple of club bangers. With the finale long awaited, the man himself Stormzy aka WickedSkengMan stepped onto stage.
This was the highlight of the whole festival for me as he put in 150% to all songs he performed. Mid performance he even stopped so we could all watch the free kick which put England into the World Cup semi-finals. When England scored the Ibiza Rocks hotel erupted like a volcano, shouts, screams, jumps and an epic performance of Big for your boots. This was definitely a performance that we will remember for a lifetime. With the assistance of smoke machines and confetti the energy and atmosphere was one to remember.
Merky Festival 2018 was definitely a winner and also one to watch out for in 2019. The Ibiza Rocks Hotel is the perfect location and team to have behind a killer event. Who knows what Stormzy will have in store for us next year.
